THE ACRE TEAM
Co-founder, Dave Becker, a true visionary, vintner, and farmer created ACRE and ONE ACRE wines through planting and cultivating his own vineyards and learning the farming process from the ground up. He acquired his viticulture and winemaking experience on the job in tending to his personal vineyards, which birthed the ONE ACRE slogan: “One Acre, One Guy, One Wine.” Dave’s deep understanding of every aspect of the farming process made him a firm proponent of the proposition that great wines are really “grown” not “made.” The ACRE Team is extremely fortunate that Dave’s expertly farmed vineyards will continue to provide the varietals for ONE ACRE’s core wines.
Co-founder and Director of Sales, Bob Babbe, watched with keen interest as his good friend and Napa neighbor Dave Becker brought ONE ACRE wines into being. With 30-years wine industry experience and as an owner and national sales manager for Cartlidge & Browne Winery, Bob had the pleasure of working with numerous outstanding fine wine distributors and sale personnel throughout the country. When the winery sold, Bob joined forces with Dave and brought his invaluable marketing and sales expertise to launch ACRE Napa Valley.
Bob’s experience as a partner and sales manager for several fine wine wholesalers allowed him to travel extensively throughout the world’s wine regions on educational and buying trips. This exposure informed his conviction that first and foremost, wine should be an expression of its distinctive location, soil and climate as well as wine making tradition. The ACRE Team is thrilled that Bob’s considerable experience continues to provide the backbone for ACRE’s sales and marketing efforts.
Mike and Talley Henry
Mike and Talley met as kids at family summer camp in Lake Tahoe and began a beautiful friendship. When they reconnected years later, they realized their shared love of wine. In leading ACRE into its next chapter, Mike and Talley have the opportunity to pursue their shared passion and create their family business.
Mike has had the good fortune to have spent the better part of his life around the wine business. Through his father, Warner Henry, a true connoisseur and collector of fine wines, Mike learned about the finest wine regions in France as well as the burgeoning regions of California, including the Napa Valley. One of his first jobs in the mid-1980’s was in the warehouse of his father’s new wine distribution business, Vintage House, which later became The Henry Wine Group. Mike, after stints as an IT Executive at Time Inc. and as a producer of documentary films with his independent production company, caught the wine bug again on a trip to Bordeaux and rejoined the Henry Wine Group. With the sale of the Henry Wine Group, Mike is thrilled to find himself in a new yet familiar role and to bring his breadth of knowledge and passion for wine to the ACRE team, with a keen eye on the future and a nod to the winery’s roots. Mike oversees the combined ACRE and ONE ACRE portfolio and manages production and operations.
Talley, a former attorney with Nixon Peabody LLP and the U.S. Navy, and a lifelong oenophile, serves as ACRE’s Director of Consumer Sales and Hospitality. Mike and Talley are proud and honored to be able to carry the torch in representing ACRE and are thankful to the legacy Dave Becker and Bob Babbe have created.
ACRE and ONE ACRE consulting winemaker, Richard Bruno’s esteemed career in the wine business began in 1985, where as a waiter and bartender in the restaurant business, he had the opportunity to taste rare and exciting wines. Inspired to become a winemaker in his own right, Richard received his degree in Viticulture & Enology from UC Davis. He subsequently made wine for some of the world’s most famous wineries, from Santa Cruz to Napa, including Francis Ford Coppola, Michael Pozzan Winery, and Don Sebastiani & Sons. Richard is also the owner and winemaker for Vinum Cellars. The ACRE team is in terrific hands with Richard at the helm of its winemaking efforts.
Oscar, our winery dog keeps a close eye on things at ACRE. He loves strolling through the vineyards, chasing squirrels, and watching the seasons change as the grapes reach their full potential.
